How YCR’s Field Trip to a Well Site Reshaped My Perception of Oil & Gas
Last Thursday July 20th, as Young Canadians for Resources Summer program members, we had the honor to visit one of Aspenleaf’s well sites. To be honest, it was a stunning experience for me. I want to admit to all young people in Canada that this experience really reshaped my perception of the oil and gas sector and how it is managed.
Bertholeen is a graduate of International Business from Laval University and came to Calgary this summer keen to learn about all the different aspects of agriculture and oil & gas that Alberta had to offer. She continues to support our program in her home province of Quebec.
Roxanne – Saint-Therèse, Quebec
Roxanne is a graduate student in Environmental Sciences at Laval University. She came to Calgary hoping to learn more about the culture of western Canada and the prosperity that our energy sector brings to the rest of Canada.
William – Laval, Quebec
William is a second-year political science student at the University of Calgary. He joined YCR because he wants to engage young people on campuses in Canada and encourage them to learn more about our natural resource industries, specifically oil and gas. He continues to work with YCR as a social media manager!
Hunter – North Bay, Ontario
An Insightful Interview with Siemens Energy North America
In June, I had the pleasure to interview Richard Voorberg of Siemens Energy North America or "SENA" When I was attending the Global Energy Show in Calgary, During our 4-minute interview that you can find on our Youtube Channel, we spoke about a range of topics, including a look towards the future of the energy industry, and how them and their parent company Siemens have been around for over 175 years.
Hunter is a Business Administration student from North Bay, Ontario. He loves Canada and wants to see it prosper and grow through the sustainable development of our natural resources. Because the passion and work ethic he displayed over the summer, Hunter is now a full-time employee with us at YCR creating media content!
Ella – Ottawa, Ontario
Why I Turned Away From Academics and Pursued a Labour Intensive Job
As an immigrant from the United Kingdom, academia was drilled into me. As most children of immigrants will understand, you are here by the blessing of your parents and expected to fulfill the hopes and dreams of all your ancestors. So, three years later when I made the decision to drop all my courses and start a career as a tire technician, all hell broke loose.
Ella is an immigrant to Canada from the United Kingdom. She believes that we need to empower Canada’s natural resource sector by empowering the voices of tradespeople and those who do fieldwork. She continues to be a supporter of our program and initiatives to promote skilled trades!
Hassan – Toronto, Ontario
Why Did I Choose Mining Engineering?
Every industry heavily depends on mining. Without it, nothing would be possible, and we would not get the energy and resources that we need. No other sector would be able to function without it. Things like the device you’re using to read this blog, the cutlery you use for food, and the house you live in are all a product of mining.
Hassan is a Mining Engineering student from Toronto. He joined us this summer to learn about Canada’s Oil & Gas Sector, and meet new contacts from different backgrounds. He continues to build support for our program through his mining engineering initiatives.
Rafay – Toronto, Ontario
Evaluating the Canadian Energy and Natural Resources Sector: A Pillar of Economic Strength
Canada's energy and natural resources sector has long been a key economic driver, contributing significantly to the country's growth and prosperity. Canada is a global powerhouse in the extraction and production of essential commodities, thanks to a wealth of different natural resources such as oil, gas, minerals, and forestry products.
Rafay is a Business Management student at Toronto Metropolitan University. He joined YCR this summer because he feels its important for all Canadians to be informed about our natural resource sector and how much it contributes to our economy and prosperity. He continues to be an ambassador for our program at TMU.
Mawiz – Milton, Ontario
Mawiz is a fourth year Political Science student at McMaster University. He joined YCR to learn more about Canada’s energy sector and to help YCR develop new ways to reach young people in eastern Canada, so that Canadians of all backgrounds can develop an understanding of each others’ unique perspectives.
Amelia – Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
Amelia is a fourth year Chemical Engineering student at the University of Saskatchwean. She is originally from Calgary but wanted to join YCR to learn about Canada’s diverse culture and promote YCR’s open conversation about natural resources. Amelia continues to be an ambassador for our program at the University of Saskatchewan.
Andrew – Banff, Alberta
Let’s Tell the Story of Our Natural Resources in Canada
There is an endless list of energy demands that people have and it's thanks to efficient and affordable transportation of our oil and gas that many of those demands are met. But how is oil getting transported in the first place?
